About Bumbazi

Bumbazi was founded in London in 2024 with the mission of introducing authentic, high-quality craftsmanship to the Western market, launching our first kilim bag collection in June 2025.

Born out of a love for kilim interiors and a desire to create accessories that embody the rich textures and colours of kilim, these bags are made to be carried and seen everywhere.

Since starting Bumbazi, we’ve connected with customers across Europe and beyond, and we look forward to continued growth while staying true to our values of authenticity, quality, and timeless design.

We aim to create unique collections that celebrate different cultures while embodying a relaxed, effortless aesthetic.  We want to move away from fleeting trends and micro-trends, encouraging personal style that is timeless, distinctive, and built to last.

ABOUT OUR PARTNERS

At the heart of Bumbazi are the people who make our collections possible.  We work closely with two main partners:

  • Our manufacturers – Deepak and his team based in Jaipur, India,  carefully assemble each bag with precision and care. Their expertise ensures that every Bumbazi piece is finished to the highest standard.

  • Our rug makers – A family business founded by Kamal in a small village outside Jaipur over 45 years ago, now run with the help of his four sons and daughter. Their generational knowledge, passed down and perfected over decades, lies at the core of our kilim bags.   Each rug is not only a work of art but also a continuation of their family’s heritage.

Our goal is to grow alongside these partners, connecting them to the Western market whilst providing a consistent stream of work, capital and creating long-term opportunities.

ABOUT OUR CRAFT

Each Bumbazi bag begins as a handwoven Indian kilim rug, a process that requires around 25 days of dedicated yarn dying, air drying, spinning and weaving.   Once complete, our skilled manufacturing team spends over 4.5 hours per bag carefully transforming each rug into a Bumbazi bag. The remaining off cuts are transformed into belts and wash bags.

No two bags are ever the same.   Every piece carries with it the story of the hands that made it, the time invested and the cultural traditions preserved through the process.  This commitment to slow craftsmanship is what makes every Bumbazi bag both unique and enduring.

OUR GOALS

At Bumbazi, our goals are twofold:

  • For our customersto create unique collections that celebrate different cultures while embodying a relaxed, effortless aesthetic.  We want to move away from fleeting trends and micro-trends, encouraging personal style that is timeless, distinctive, and built to last.

  • For our partners – to empower and grow the businesses of our manufacturers and rug makers. By offering a steady stream of business and capital, we help create stability and opportunity, ensuring that our partners grow with us while sustaining traditional craftsmanship for future generations.
